And to more nice reviews of my new CD: Tunnelvision (Dutch only):

Maxazine: (click to read full review)

“Kortom, Tunnelvision is een heel gevarieerde cd waarbij de nummers elkaar naadloos aanvullen. Is Ronny Scotts in Londen klaar voor van de Wouw? Met zo’n CD kan je volgens ons de hele wereld aan.”

Platomania: (click to read full review)

“Tunnelvision doet daarom denken aan platen van de Brecker Brothers en Herbie Hancock en dat in de positive zin van het woord, want Rob Van De Wouw is nergens gedateerd of saai te noemen en heeft, wat dat betreft, zijn naam meer dan mee.”

Last Week

by Rob on Nov.04, 2009, under Newz

Last week I released my new CD “Tunnelvision” for Embrace Recordings. A big shout out from Rotterdam to L.A. @ Mark de Clive-Lowe, who produced the album! It was a crazy week.. We did 3 performances in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

We kicked of with a show in Paradiso on oktober 27th. The venue was filled with a nice crowd and was good to see so many friends there! Thanks for coming!! We got a very good review of that show in ‘de Volkskrant’.

review Volkskrant 29th oktober by Koen Schouten (click to read):

volkskrant live recensie 291009 l

That same morning I did a live performnance and some interviews on Radio6 in a program called ‘The Beat‘. It was a duo performance with Martin Rascher who plays samples/laptop etc in my band.

On thursday (okt 29th) we performed at Club WATT, in my hometown Rotterdam and on saturday okt 31th we performed at SJU (Utrecht).

Here you see a little impression of the gig in SJU:

And another 3fm DJ Gerard Ekdom put us on #6 in his freak 11-list.

We got a **** Review in Revu: (click to read) by Guuz Hoogaerts

Biography

by Rob on Nov.04, 2009, under Eng

Rob van de Wouw6 web

Trumpeter Rob van de Wouw, one of the leading musicians of the dutch electro-jazz scene released recently (okt 2009) his second album ‘Tunnelvision’ produced by Marc de Clive-Lowe, which had outstanding reviews in the media. The album got an Edison (Dutch Grammy) for best Jazz/World album 2010 in The Netherlands

His new sound, a collection of electronic beats and acoustic instruments, eclectic improvisations over electro-funk grooves provides ways to explore his talent. Accompiened by the best dutch musicians from the funk and jazz scenes, Rob van de Wouw recorded ‘Tunnelvision’ together with brokenbeat founder Marc de Clive-Lowe, who is concidered one of the most groundbreaking musicians of the UK Broken Beat an Nujazz movemement and collaborated with artists as Lauren Hill, Omar and Jody Watley.cTunnelvision is a highly original album and shows a glimpse of the future in jazz.

In 2007 Rob released his debut CD: ‘Reboot Your Soul’ (Embrace Recordings) a mixture of jazz, funk, soul &R&B. This project once started as Urban Jazz Sessions. Under that name Rob and his band performed on a monthly basis for over two years at Rotown (www.rotown.nl) in Rotterdam. The album was well received by the Dutch Press and got quite some airplay on Dutch radio. Rob and his band played many clubs and festivals. Highlights were North Sea Jazz Festival (2007), The Hague Jazz (2007,2009), Pure Jazz (2008) and a theater-tour 2008-2009.

Trumpeter Rob van de Wouw (1975) graduated in the summer of 2003 at the school of music in Rotterdam, where he has been educated by trumpeter Jarmo Hoogendijk and followed classes from, among others, Benjamin Herman and Eric Vloeimans. During his education he attended a weeklong workshop in New York, at the invitation of Carnegie Hall, where he attended classes from, among others, David Liebman, Stave Turre, Rufus Reid and Kenny Barron. As a result of his graduation he received a scholarship from the foundation” Vrienden van het Conservatorium”. This scholarship was awarded to him for ‘excellent study results’ and ‘excellent artistic qualities’.

Together with ‘musical partner in crime’ Louk Boudesteijn he formed Louk Boudesteijn/Rob van de Wouw quintet (B&W quintet). This quintet performed on the North Sea Jazz Festival (2002) and Jazz a Vienne (France, 2001) and more. In November of 2002 the quintet took part in the prestigious Carnegie Hall Professional Workshop for Jazz ensembles in New York. Only six ensembles were selected for this workshop worldwide, the B&W quintet was the only European delegation. As a conclusion of this workshop, they very successfully performed in Carnegie Hall. In May of 2005 the first cd of the B&W quintet ‘It’s about time’ was released (Maxanter Records). Some of Rob his compositions can be found on this cd. In 2008 they release their second cd ‘Force of Habits’ (Embrace Recordings)(www.benwquintet.nl).

In 2004 he also cofounded the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. In 2005 the first cd of this band was released, which is titled ‘Introducing’. In 2009 they released their second CD called ‘Suite to a T’ (www.rotterdamjazzorchestra.nl)

Alongside his own projects, Rob has been a highly demanded musician/soloist in many different styles. He performed with the Latin-jazz bands Nueva Manteca and Bye-Ya, and he also appears with the Cubob City Big band on a regular basis. Furthermore he can regularly be found doing ‘his thing’ on the beats of DJ’s in many different clubs.
