‘Common Ground’ (MdCL Remix) released on 2 albums!
by Rob on Mar.09, 2010, under Newz
Mark de Clive-Lowe did a great remix of ‘Common Ground’ which appears on my Tunnelvision album featuring Ivar (in my opinion one of the best soul-singers on this site of the ocean, currently seeking for inspiration and writing songs on a roadtrip around the world) on vocals. MdCL’s remix takes the song from mid-tempo soul to the club with a groove that takes you back to classic late 90’s MAW and Ivar’s uplifting vocals.
I’m very happy to announce that it will be released this coming months on 2 albums! On ‘Mark de Clive-Lowe presents… EP vol.1′ for the Japanese label Especial Records (on 12″ vinyl, release: 30 april 2010) and on DJ Maestro’s ‘Digestive – After Dinner Dance’ for dance4life (release 12 march 2010).

“Lovin it all especially the Rob van de Wouw remix”
- DJ Spinna
“MdCL is always a major force, jazz fuelled dance classics seem almost like second nature to him! His collaboration with Sandra St. Victor is simply one of the best songs you’ll hear on a dancefloor – Cosmos is 21st century gospel futurism! With The Politik’s Dreams and Mark’s remix of Rob van de Wouw’s Common Ground, here are three productions that are brimming with energy and innovation and above all, musicality.”
- Patrick Forge
“An excellent release. I love all tracks, my fave is “Common ground”! Full support from your german friend”
- Rainer Trüby (Compost)
“Great EP, hard to pick a winner but the MCDL remix is a winner!”
- Mad Mats (Raw Fusion)
MDCL…quality all the way….just what I expected, but The Politics “Dream” is a beast of a tune…will definitely be playing at every opportunity I get at WMC and beyond.”
- Daz- I-Kue (Bugz In The Attic)
“Full support from my side, the MDCL Remix and The Politlk tune are the ones for me here. Thanks very much for sending this over.”
- Michael Rütten
“Excellent EP! A sweet selection of remixes for different moods and tempers. “Cosmos” is the obvious weapon of choice for tearing up a dancefloor – a monster of a track with fabulous gospel tinged vocals! Love “Common ground” and the more classic laid back house vibe. Vocalist Ivar sounds amazing, like a warm blanket on a chilly Stockholm late winter morning. Nice to hear Bembe and The Politik in a new costume too. Can’t wait for the rest of the vinyl series.”
- Opolopo

Last Week
by Rob on Nov.04, 2009, under Newz
Last week I released my new CD “Tunnelvision” for Embrace Recordings. A big shout out from Rotterdam to L.A. @ Mark de Clive-Lowe, who produced the album! It was a crazy week.. We did 3 performances in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

We kicked of with a show in Paradiso on oktober 27th. The venue was filled with a nice crowd and was good to see so many friends there! Thanks for coming!! We got a very good review of that show in ‘de Volkskrant’.
review Volkskrant 29th oktober by Koen Schouten (click to read):
That same morning I did a live performnance and some interviews on Radio6 in a program called ‘The Beat‘. It was a duo performance with Martin Rascher who plays samples/laptop etc in my band.
On thursday (okt 29th) we performed at Club WATT, in my hometown Rotterdam and on saturday okt 31th we performed at SJU (Utrecht).
Here you see a little impression of the gig in SJU:
And another 3fm DJ Gerard Ekdom put us on #6 in his freak 11-list.

Bringing “Tunnelvision” from studio to the stage
by Rob on Oct.21, 2009, under Newz
On the “Tunnelvision” album I recorded wit producer Mark de Clive-Lowe we used a lot of drum-samples coming out of Mark’s MPC -3000. So how to get this “electronic/programmed sound” to the stage without losing the freedom I want to have as a Jazzmusician?
The solution we chose was Ableton Live software running on a Macbook with a couple of midicontrollers played by Martin Rascher. Martin can control now which sample plays when, add effects as filters and delays, create breaks etc on stage and I still have the freedom to stretch forms and improvise, going places we didn’t know we were going!

Tunnelvision Album preview by mashibeats
Also I’m very happy to see that some people online are already talking about this album (It’s not even released yet!!!) and the “team up” with Mark de Clive-Lowe. Thanks for that!!! Here are some links:
judging from the jazzy sample, de Clive-Lowe is to van de Wouw what Marcus Miller was to Miles Davis.

Some more Vids
by Rob on Aug.20, 2009, under Movies
Here is a video recorded on 20th of march ‘09 in ‘de Badcuyp‘ in Amsterdam. The band I’m playing with here is called ‘Sinas‘. A band which is formed by Wouter Schueler (sax). We used to play monthly shows in this nice little venue on the ‘Albert Cuyp‘. It was the lab where we tried out new things and new songs. On this video however we play a song called ‘64′ which we didn’t play for a very long time.. I had to dig very deep in my memory to remember the theme as Wouter decided on the spot that he wanted to play that song. Featuring Joost Kroon (drums), Hassie Dune (bass), Jos de Haas & Frank (“Dokkie”) van Dok (percussion) and Jan Wouter Oostenrijk (guitar).
From that same session here is a video of a tune called “Spanish Rider”. This song also appears on the album ‘Global Explorations‘ which we released in the fall of 2008.
In this video of 23-11-’07 I play in the same venu (de Badcuyp), But here with my own band. However of the original line-up there’s only Marc Bien (guitar). But still we have an all-star line up with Srefan Kruger (Zuco 103) on drums, Aram Kersbergen (Ilse de Lange, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Kane) and Sven Figee on Hamond Organ and keys. The song is called “Miles High” which appears as an ‘hidden track’ on my ‘Reboot Your Soul‘ album, and was our standard set-opener of all the gigs we did. This song was inspired by Miles’ ‘In a Silent Way‘…
